At Special Tees we are looking to expand our team! Come join a family of creative, hard working, and passionate team members. This position is perfect for someone who is looking for a part time position of 2-3 days per week. This is a great entry-level position that could transition into full time if so desired. If you have a history of customer service, sales, graphic design, management, or experience working in the screen-printing, embroidery, or promotional products industries, we may have the perfect part time position for you!

Great screen printing and embroidery starts with a great design and a great design file. Designs are visual. Design Files are usable. There are many different types of design files, but not all are usable. The most easy to use files with the best results are Vector files.
Preferred Design File Types
We prefer using Vector files because they are easy to use and modify. They are scalable without pixelation or blurring. These file types are most likely created with Adobe Illustrator or similar software. Vector designs are typically bold logos with clean graphic edges. Vector files typically end in .ai, .eps, or .svg. Sometimes they can be .pdf. When looking through your design files, look for the ones that end in these handles. Vector designs can also be used and created in Canva Pro and other similar programs.

If you are planning for the future, but don’t yet have a design, please connect with us or have your designer reach out for some tips and recommendations. Looping us in early helps ensure your project success and prevents delays. We can advise if drawing by hand all the way up to digital painting strategies.
Creating Your Design in Canva?
If you are creating your design in Canva, make sure you only upload and use vector files in your creation. Give them a call if you have questions. If you have a pro account, you can download .svg. If you are a teacher or in the educational field, make sure you have the right account that reflects this so you can also download .svg vector files.
Resources
Need inspiration or vector art to help you get to the next level? Check out all the great vector designs at Vecteezy.com. Download and share them with us or let us know and we can download them for you and help you with your vision and layout. There are many resources on the interwebs that will allow you to use their vector designs for your project. Be sure to download the right file type and upload the correct file type into Canva or other programs, so your final saved file is 100% vector.
Other File Types and What They are Used For
Many clients share and send .jpg or .png files. These file types are typically low resolution and are saved for web or print (at brochure size). We don’t typically work with these file types because once they are saved, they are no longer editable and they are pixel-based. If this is the only file type you have, send it over. We will take a look and make a recommendation on how to proceed. Other decoration recommendations may also be an option!When the file is unusable, an art fee or art-rebuild may be required. Sometimes we can use .jpg or .png files if they were saved “at-size” in “high resolution,” especially if you can tell us the name of the font used in the design. At-Size and High Resolution refers to the design being saved at the same size you want it printed on your shirt. High resolution means the design is no less than 300 dots per inch (dpi). Not sure if your file is at-size or high enough resolution? Bottom line. Send it over and we will take a look. We are here to help!
Avoid Online Converters or Re-Saving
Don’t waste your time uploading low resolution files to online vector converters. While this can work sometimes, it more than likely will produce unfavorable results, design anomalies, and we will likely have to rebuild the design anyway.

Payment is required up front for all orders, prior to printing. We do offer payment via Purchase Order Process for schools and government. Please note: Bounced check payments will incur a fee of $36. This fee will be added to the open invoice. All applicable discounts will be lost.
Our standard turn-around is 7-10 business days after Order Approval, Proof Approval, and Payment has been received. We always want to print and ship as fast as possible. The Special Design Tool is for the independent one-stop design, shop, and check-out customer for Screen printing designs with 1 to 5 colors. It can also be used to create a design to save for later or print on a different style not yet available in the tool. – Assist production team with whatever priorities of the day
– Typical production needs include preparing films, lining up transparencies, taping, reclaiming, exposing, and rinsing screens, moving boxes, loading and unloading garments from the press and dryer, packaging products for shipping, and helping customers to their car with their order
– Count and inspect goods pre and post production in order to ensure quality standards are met
– Ensure orders are printed and shipped in a timely manner
– Passion for details and quality are key
– Must be able to stand for 8 hours
– Must be able to lift and carry boxes that weigh up to 40lbs

The Screen Technician is responsible for managing the reclaiming process and preparation of screens for production. This position can be filled during normal working hours or can be done part time early or later hours if it works best for the individual’s schedule. Not all Production Support Team members become Screen Technicians, but this role is vital to the pace of the business.
Screen Technician Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
– Gathers screens that need to be cleaned for the day based on upcoming needs
– Removes tape, and screen printing ink
– Washes each screen thoroughly, ensuring all debris and clogs are removed and the frame is clean from any ink
– Manages soaking tank, power washer, and filtration systems ensuring equipment is running properly during the reclaiming process
– Completes high-level cleaning of the tools and equipment in the wash-out room daily, and as-needed
– Ensures heating cabinets are maintained at proper temperature and humidity
– Understands how to register films, how to burn screens, and how to inspect and tape screens
– Manages appropriate mesh counts so production can stay on track
– Inspects screens to make sure they burned and rinsed properly
– Has a solid understanding of mesh counts and can identify any issues prior to burning screens

The role of the Lead Printer/Production Manager is to ensure quality printing and the full production process efficiently and effectively by leading and developing production team members while working closely with the sales/office team. Responsibilities include maintaining an efficient production schedule while focused on quality and details. The lead printer also ensures the team executes regular equipment maintenance, manages stock of inks, maintains a clean production area, and supervises further training and development of members of staff. On key days, the Lead Printer may be the primary person to set up, print, and break down orders. During slower days or when others are “training,” the Lead Printer may also help count shirts, fold and prepare shirts for printing, aid in the screen reclaiming process, or perform any other general task that may be needed to support the business.
